Just ban all importation from companies that harvest lionfish anywhere except the atlantic

I don't want to get into financials too much, but there are a number of reasons this wouldn't work. It would create a monopoly or small cartel of companies that do collect Lion's from the Atlantic. It would be hurting lots of other collecting companies that would be losing some of their ability to sell product even though they are collecting in a proper manner and not hurting the environment in other oceans. I think eating them is a much better idea. Let the retail ornamental fish market be. You guys get my stance, don't need to write a book on reasons blocking importation would be much more complicated than it seems.

Agreed, although I wish it wasnt.

I will admit I have thought the above as well. I think the best route is to just make personal decisions to buy atlantic ones if you have the chance.

That being said, who WOULDNT want one with the colors I showed. I think I would die and go to heaven if that was made available to a scorpenidae fanatic like myself.

I'll let this thread keep going if we can keep it to lion fish.

As a FL person, I see lions here all the time. In fact, all the lion fish we have in the aquariums 'invasive species' display were caught right here. Lions are a hardy speices that are doing well no that they are here and established. Other than a hook, net or spear... they aren't leaving anytime soon. It's really too bad.

A lot of the spearo's down there say they taste good. I have also heard that there are enough of them in the atlantic that they are showing up in "Mixed Catch"

"It's absolutely good eating -- a delicacy. It's delicately flavored white meat, very buttery,"

quite frankly it sounds delicious!

They are becoming an evasive species and ruining species in the reef. They are one of my favorite fish and they are awesome. But its the same as hunting deer and pheasants. You have to keep then under control or there will be no stopping them.

X2 for you both..
