You would be correct. It is the black acrylic that is glued around the top and bottom of the tank to hide the acrylic weilds and also for strenth purposes.

Anything that cost $5k-$10K better be stunning so that the rich brats can go bragging about how rare and special it is for them to spend so much money on. Personally, that's not my cup of tea. I only see fish like that at public aquarium exhibits. I wonder how much these guys sell the bichir bichir for before it's shipped oversea to Japan. I also wonder why there is not an abundant #s of these if they're found in Africa. Is someone purposely doing this to preserve the market to keep it from crashing? I remembered back in the days when a lot of fish were hard to get but not anymore.
