Yeah it's easy to say - he should know better - or he should have at least done research before getting a shark. Which is very true. Since a Shark should never be bought on impulse. But then to flame the person afterward - doesn't help - it just makes them defensive.

Instead it much better to inform them why it was bad choice - so they can learn from their mistakes. Like wise it really doesn't help that LFS often care more about making money than helping customers to make a good choice. And often times it's the "misinformation" that LFS give out that happens to be the very "evil" that most of us who care about fish is fighting against.

I am sorry but being ignorant is not an excuse to abuse an animal. I don't really care what the person was thinking (Or not in this case) it's just wrong. And like others who will follow, I will continue to point out their ignorance as I would hope someone would (And have) done when I make stupid mistakes.

You either toughen up and learn how to take it and learn from it, or you run away and continue to be ignorant.

just seen a 15 inch horned shark in a tank that cant be any more than 20 gallons here at a pet store in chicago, what does that tell the guy who has the 55 gallon at home..............hmmmmmmm i can get that shark,if hes living in here he would be ok in a tank twice that size.by the way not sure if you can say the names of the lfs without getting in trouble so if you live in the chicagoland area it is at 175th and cicero (the cruel store)

Pet stores keep there fish for weeks at a time. Not years like most of the people who buy the fish keep them for. Its stupid too compare fish stores to home tanks.

Agreed - often times LFS keep fish in conditions that really should be Illegal. And that definitely aren't best for the fish.

The excuse - that just because my LFS does it - means I can too - is just stupid. It would be nice to see some LFS with some ethics on proper Fish Husbandary - for a change.

I do agree pet shops are bad and laws should be made but that wasnt the point of what i was saying. Unless you wanna pay 10 times more for anything fish related so LFS can be 10 times bigger (to fit all the massive tanks they would need) then i dont think they can do much about it.
My point was ppl are IDIOTS yes IDIOTS for thinking just because a store does it i can do it too. Shops only generally keep fish for a few weeks so yes it sucks having them in small tanks but its not for that long. The tanks also need to be made small and without much decoration so fish can easily be seen by customers and caught by staff. Ofcourse if the fish is in a small tank for a few weeks and still hasnt sold other arrangements should be made.
The bit i do totally agree with is that LFS should be 100% honest with tank sizes ect that the fish they are selling will eventually need and there should be punishments for stores selling animals to ppl who cant look after them.

yup

all you guys haft to say is you dont think or you know is tank isnt big enuff, there is no need to go into detail or say there dumb, thats not what MFK is about , no matter how dumb or what ever it may seem there is no need for that, we are all MFK and help each other, its comments that are added on that cause fights and people to stop long on, if u have extra comments that arent constuctive then dont say it.

honestly!

alrighty everyone i havent came back to this post for a little bit and what a nice bashing ive walked into that tank hes in is 400gl def a little small but def 400 times better then the conditions ive found him i basically saved this beaut she was half dead when i got her and now shes more then anything she can ever be. im in the process of building a bigger something in my buddies basement where i can take even better care of here she have all the room she needs i had to move all my other fish all around and totally redo the tank just for her so ... how cruel of a person am i and do i sound incapable of owning this beautiful specimen that was put hear for all of us to admire?
