Matter of opinion. I think the Mona Lisa looks like shibby, yet some would pay millions for it. Personally I'de take this ray over a black ray anyday. Black rays are everywhere.
I have a one of a kind Motoro I'de take any day over a black ray. Why? Cause it's one of a kind..... Never seen anything even close to similar. That to me is priceless.
What does the true Signata look like? It makes me wonder of P. Signata was another one of those 'blunders of science' where they ID'ed the ray based on poor charecteristics over a century ago before knowledge of potamotrygon progressed.. ?
Ever look at the Stingray ID's in the old Axelrod's Fish Atlas??!?! Every single ID is COMPLETELY wrong!!
I think Otorongo decribes the whole like Motoro. Where as Motello, Estrella, and tigrillo describe the pattern. I look for the white or yellowish ring around the disk and the half tiger stripe markings on the bottom of the tail for starters. I see Castexi and Otorongo used all the time to describe the same rays. Any insight to why the different blanket name?
I have the Axlerod atlas..... I thought there's a proper Motoro ID in there but I could be wrong....... But I definetly agree almost all of them are wrong.
I think there should be 4 species....LOL
Motoro
Black
tigger/flower/retic
Castexi/Ontorongo/Orb/Brown
