predator cats for a 55?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
so i was digging up info on google and planet catfish and the jaguar catfish seems to fit the bill also, its a carnivore and seems to top out around 9 inches, anybody have any experience with these, also a nearby reliable lfs said they have these periodically

bumble bee catfish! i love mine :D

i was gonna say gulper but i see thats already been listed alot

you could def. look into the wood cats (jaguar are in this family i think.) they should for the most part be pred and stay small enough to stay in a 55. i have a zamora catfish, Auchenipterichthys coracoideus, cat e log says it only gets 4" but mine is passing that right now and still growing. it stays in hiding all day but with moon lights you can watch him out hunting all night.

Not sure if you could call a jaguar "predatory" but you could definitely have a few in a 55 :)

First off there have been a lot of stupid answers on this thread.
Your tank is a bit slim, I've got some 50ish gal that are 19.5in front to back, however there are still a few to go at:

pim ornatus
pim pictus
pim blochi
95 percent of synodontis sp.
hoplo
flag tail diadema
marble bagrid
jaguar cat

all of these fish will thrive on a flesh based diet whether this be small fish or insect larvae and most can be kept in groups of their kind.
if you look any of these up on planet catfish there is a facility to search for similar or same sized fish.
you are doing the right thing by checking before stocking-dont be put off by some of the previous answers.;)
