try holding it up to a light to see if you can tell whether or not there are stones in there. If it is gravel, my bet would be that it's several small pieces rather than one large oval stone.

Maybe a tumor?

have you tried the epsom salt yet? even if it's not gravel, and some other type of blockage, you're not ready for last resorts until 1) you've tried the laxative, and 2) the fish is being negatively affected by the blockage/growth?.

Are there any signs of worms in the tank or extending from the fish when its resting.-Anne

okay, i've been observing him for a while, and no anne, there are no worms whatsoever. i did the light thing and it doesn't look like stones, neither gravel nor a big stone. maybe it's just a growth? and no i haven't gone to the LFS to get the salt yet. you don't mean table salt do you. laxatives? the fish doesn't seem to be very affected..so i'm wondering what on earth is wrong with it.

Not table salt. Epsom salt can be found in most grocery stores though.

Does sound like a growth now rather than a blockage. Have you observed it excrete feces?

It would help if you're able to keep it in a bare bottom tank by itself.

Sort of sounds like a benign tumor. Anyone else get that feeling? Whatever it has, it's uncommon.

contages? i'll move it later. thanks for the help thus far..

I have no idea. I've never dealt with this sort of thing before.

Still try the epsom salt just in case.

okay i shall just leave the bichir for a while. i upped the filtration and now the tank is super over filtered. i didn't move the bichir into another tank though. i'll check post in a weeks time to let you guys know the progress, and of course, ask for more help. thanks anyways guys.
