Note that everyone here is helping you due to a concern for the welfare of the fish, and not because of any fondness of its owner. If you so unappreciative of our suggestions, what is the point of asking for help? If you were really concerned for the health of your fish, you could contact research laboratories working with Polypterus and ask if they've encountered a similar problem.

okay, well personally I wouldn't know where to even begin in contacting reseach laboratories. However, I have heard of feeding oscars epsom salts in peas for the same reason, so I don't see why feeding it to the bichir would hurt either, as long as it's not a whole lot and it is EPSOM salts. You can also try a short dip with epsom salts if that is not working. Maybe instead of rubbing it on the food, you could cut it open somehow and insert ONE granual into the food and if that doesn't help try it again next time you can feed it. If it's still eating you're doing good so far. I am not exactly sure how to do an epsom salt dip, but I will look for you and get back to you shortly....

I say cut open the food an insert it because maybe it is washing off of the food before the bichir can eat it being just rubbed on there, worth a shot....

epsom salt bath:

As a last ditch effort you can try an epsom salt bath, 1 tbsp/1 gallon, dechlored water of a temp that matches your tank, put the fish in the bath for 15-20 minutes once a day until constipation is cleared.
