Had an interesting experience with the arrowhead. I had a bit larger growout cichlid I needed to cull (healthy, but deformed) Threw it into the tank expecting carnage but the puffer sized it up and left it alone. Made me think that I might be able to keep a tank mate with this guy IF I kept it in the 65B and it was the right size/temperament. With the algae growth in this tank I have a large bristle nosed pleco I have in mind. Also something like a large angel fish might work. Total experiment that could end in disappointment and disaster but considering it....

Size may be a factor but being opportunistic predators I'd worry. Hope it goes well. My experiment with guppies and my fahaka ended poorly. It was ok for two days and the next I came home to all the guppies dead and torn and the fahaka sucking on the head of one. I had hoped it would be ok as he eats pellets well but nope he's a killer.

The arrowhead is one that actually scares me. He responds to movement with a fierce feeding trigger that makes you jump back a bit. I really dont trust sticking my hand in the tank with him but knowing he has a limit to what he goes at is nice to know. The 65B is tall and he does stay toward the bottom except to feed so it was just an idea. Realistically he still is getting downsized to a 30 gallon and the 65B will be used for another project.

This weekend involved heavy duty cleaning of the 65B and 30g in preparation for the move. I am also very seriously considering changing out the Aquaclear 70 on the 30 gallon to a AQ110. All my other filters and spare parts on hand are for the 110. The 70 is the only one of its kind in my fish stuff. I dont feel like the AC110 would be overkill with a messy puffer but not sure if the current would throw the fine sand up.

The puffers current home, a 65B. The red circles are what you normally see of the puffer, lol

This is normally all you see of him till feeding

This is the tank he will get moved into, a 36" 30 gallon. I am using a sponge pre-filter to protect the filter from sand but the AQ70 does not create that much current... Wonder if the 110 will be too much?

Waiting for substrate to come in for the 65B before the big move, but realistically could do the move at any point since the stuff in the 65 goes into the 30.

I've got two ac70s on smaller tanks and they are really powerful. I have them turned all the way down and on one of the tanks a piece of acrylic under the output to further disperse the flow all the way down the 36" length.

I keep spare sponges, shaft, and impeller on hand for the AC110 since I currently run 4 on the garage tanks. The AC70 is kind of the odd one out. While the intake tube is interchangeable with the 110 it just uses different things and I dont want to have to stock them. The 70 really is enough filter for the 30g, its just the parts issue and future fix ability when the time comes.

Did the big filter change. Now have an AC110... on a 30 gallon tank! lol

It just made sense to have it match all my other filters and spare parts.

Thats a lot of filter for such a small tank! lol

Still need to move sand from the 65B and then the puffer.

I run a 70 & 30 wide open on my 29 with pool filter sand. No issues at all. If I had a 110 I would of threw it on instead of the 70. I think I'm about to drill it & try a guppy grass refugium. I enjoy the suvatti, but it's a high maintenance tank. I'm always changing water or scraping the glass even after cutting my water with rodi.

I think when mine gets moved over, the decor will be much more in scale. The mopani I use in the 65B will look good in a smaller tank. I will try and add a bit more rock work too. The 65B then gets my spiderwood piece in it. Likely will replace the sand in that with the CaribSea Peace River which I use in my 300 also. I like it because its not too fine compared to the CaribSea River of Doubt I currently have in the 65B. This is a finer sand for sure so I took the precaution of the foam pre-filter. I need to get time to make the move but been busy. Hopefully soon.
