proof gars are canibals

i should also make clear that we all (or at least most of us, i know I do) know you aren't intentionally wanting these fishes to eat each other, it's a matter of circumstances and planning. they are impressive fishes for sure, i definitely want them to be successfully maintained in your tank(s) like you do.

i should note that the very FIRST order of TPGs (back in 2005) i had a similar experience...i dropped in two of the "larger" specimens in Gar-den (I) and almost immediately the Croc II lunged and grabbed one of the new guys (and size was about 4-5" difference. I immediately had to lightly "smack" the aggressor on the head to get him to release the TPG, and promptly removed the two TPGs to another tank. trust me i would have lost my mind if i had lost that rare of fish on the first night! again, i worked for years to bring those fish into the US. with gars, nearly anything can happen. i have also learned that the croc II thinks it owns any garmada and will kill others while demonstrating that dominance.

anyway, good luck with the fishes in the future of course--

thanks for the clearification. i have pushed and poked at big cats to get some fish back that were almost eatten. even my sturgeon that was 2" smaller then my endli i had to save from my endli. i think the only reason i got it back from that endli was because it had it tail first.

with this trop and flg by the time i had any tape or rocks moved to give me a hole to try poking the flg had a broken back and the tail was down to meat with missing meat. the larger trop tried tried to steal it once the smaller trop had it.

your experince with the croc is the reason i dont have a gotor. everything i have came across shows gators to be relentless at times and i dont want to be in that situation.
