Protest mistreatment of Snapping Turtles anyone?

this was my whole point to eddie. i'm not saying it ain't cruel what they are doing to the turtles, but i'm just saying this is no worse than other things we do for fun or food. or for fun while we get our food. but yet there's a double standard here. everyone's outraged about these turtles but are ok with the other things

And we've all seen videos of guys that hook a giant fish or shark, and can't pull it up, so they cut the line and leave a giant hook in it's mouth. And they'll say something stupid like 'it will fall out on its own'. Really? Are you positively sure of that? Put yourself in the fish's shoes. How would you like to have a giant hook stuck in your mouth? I'm sure that's painful, and will make eating difficult for the fish. But folks don't apply the logic to those circumstances, because "it's just a fish".

It's curious how people view certain things as animal cruelty/abuse while other things are perfectly acceptable. Me personally, I think this turtle thing is disgusting, as is sport fishing. But I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. There's no point. On the flipside, if you say you're ok with this turtle thing, would your opinion change if it were a different animal? Dogs? What if they did this to pandas? Or baby monkeys?

i'm only ok with the turtle thing if they killed them and they were consumed. but to just play with them like that i don't like it, no matter what animal it was. but i'm like you, i won't lose any sleep over it. so when i said i was ok with it i said that meaning i won't lose any sleep over it. i wouldn't do that myself

i think horse racing, circus animals and things like that are just as cruel really. same with the killer whales and dolphins and sea lions they use to entertain people

Yup. We can be such hypocrites sometimes. We scream bloody murder at turtle wrestling right before we take our kids to the zoo and have fried chicken for dinner.

Yeah sport fishing can be seen as cruel but lets face it if it weren't for the sport there would be that much less conservation for those fish and their waters.....and I'm no avid angler.and as far as the circus and other animal entertainment displays,I'm against them heck I have not been to a circus since I've been old enough to pay my own way and Ihave never taken my son to any such event in his ten years of life.I don't feel as strongly about zoos though,our zoo has changed quite a bit,they don't even have elephants anymore because they felt they could no longer give them the care and space they would require.I feel that zoos are educational and they at least give their animals good care and conditions.....I'm with Sumo,a little,if the animal is going to be eaten then there is no need to get too upset about how it is killed but there needn't be a public display of it's torturous death....LOL I'll decimate some good fried chicken though.

i'm going to a circus for the first time next weekend, i'll be back to post how i feel about the animals in the shows

see i didn't see the video, it was taken down, but from what i read they get bashed and die right? but when we catch fish and tie them on a rope at the lip, that's a more slower suffering death, no? and i don't wanna open up a door to another thing with the slaughter houses and things like that but cattle and pigs die in a more brutal death

but like i said, i don't know what happens to the turtles afterwards. if they're eaten, i think their death are more swift than a fish on a rope or a chicken,pig, cow in a slaughter house

Again, this is what is going through my mind....I haven't seen a video at this point or read any posts past the one I quoted. The pages ahead may change my mind, but....

I have seen the cattle videos and it is pretty brutal...Some of the ways we fish are brutal....Sticking a metal rod through the back of a bream and throwing it back in the water to sit for hours until another fish comes along and eats it/strips half of its flesh off while alive can't be too much better. Then, the fish that are caught are often filleted alive... Their entire body cut up into pieces while the heart still pumps & brain still functions. I personally haven't had to fillet a catfish myself yet, but when I do I will bash in the head beforehand. Our culture & society approves because its "just a fish" & catfish tastes good!
