Xbox 360 = 720p max
PS3 = 1080p max

GPU and CPU Comparison
GPU, i.e. the graphics processing unit, and CPU, i.e. the central processing unit, are important components of the video game console. The Xenos GPU in Xbox 360 does have an edge over the RSX GPU in PS3, but then the Cell engine (microprocessor chip) in PS3, which is more powerful than the triple-core Xenon CPU in Xbox 360, comes to the rescue of PS3 by handling the workload at any given point of time

YLOD isnt possible on PS3's anymore since its built into the software to shutdown before overheating. Not sure if XBox has implemented any of this software yet.

Lots of info out there if you really want to break it down.

If the Xbox is only 720p capable then why is there an option for 1080i and 1080p? Not to mention that 1080 looks much better on my 1080 tv than 720 does. Unless I am confused of course. I just know that I am running my xbox through an HDMI at 1080 with no ill effects. I am also pretty sure that most games being made for it are supported for 1080. Not picking a fight or anything, just curious.

PS3 FTW! never owned any microsoft system! always been a sony fan! now all i need to do is get PS1 and PS2 just to say i have all 3 gaming systems!

Xbox has smoother online play for sure. And who cares about blu ray. Sure its better quality but seriously, not that big of a deal. The ps3 is a family/movie console that can barely play games online. The 360 was meant for hardcore gaming. That's why there's MLG (major league of gaming) for the 360 and not ps3.

I've not heard of Xbox being 1080p compatible, from what I understand it upscales 720p to 1080p. Big difference. Even for the PS3 most games arent 1080p yet.

Did you not read my previous post? Go back a page and you will see that the PS3 has a CPU that puts it over the top of Xbox. As far as it barely playing games online, can you back that up with any stats or is it just your own personal opinion? I care about bluray since its the standard for HD disks these days, plus it saves me from having to buy another component to add to my rack.

Have both systems here,

Still prefer sony ps3 (1st generation may I add, still going strong.)

I play a few games on xbox, most of my gaming money goes to the ps3 though :headbang2

xbox 360 cant get the RROD because there is no red indicator lights, it can still have hardware failures.

all machine that don't have a fixed spindle for the drive (see image)

run a risk of having the disk being scratched while it moves, this includes PC's and all consoles, wii xbox(original, 360, and slim) as well as all PlayStation models, except the #2 slim the US model

At a distance of over 3 feet, on a display area smaller then 52 inches the normal human eye can not make definite distinctions between 720p and 1080i (p). The pixel saturation is just TOO high. Unless you have 20/10 vision it wont be clear there is a difference.

Where the ps3 does have a blueray player, its not magic...most blueray players do get "over the air" updates...and where blueray did come overtop of HDDVD...its clear that streaming will be the new "media" and xbox 360 already has netflix on it.

Im not 100% sure if the ps3 can do it, but my computer streams data to my xbox in the OTHER ROOM wirelessly and i can watch all my movies there too :)
