"Puking 13 year olds"

ok so I would very much appreciate if you the MFK'ers could refrain from refering to teenagers as puking or constantly wishing we were gone or trying to make a rule to get us off of the site. I dont want to stir this up a giant argument or anything, but really there are some good teenage fish keepers on this site I personally hate taking blows, im not sure if im good by your standards but I feel like I do all right. im also dedicated, when I cant get a ride I grab my bike and go on a 12+ mile trip for the sake of my fish.

IF YOUR A PUKING TEENAGER GO PUKE ON SOME OTHER SITE!!! or just sit back and learn from the people here, they know a lot and they've been doing it for longer than we were alive.

thank-you for reading this hopefully this will help my cause I really had no intent of causing trouble just wanted you guys out there to know this.


also I heard someone had the bright idea of handing MFK cards at a local pet store so we can help the new people. if you do this please keep in mind we are going to have a lot more threads asking

I feel the MONSTER before the fish keepers implies serious people people that feel fish keeping is a way of life, because it is, its beyond a hobby.

again thank-you for keeping us young ones in consideration, lately ive been reading more and more harshness.

you are one of the few kids that i am ok with on here.
simply bc you are here to learn not show off your dads tanks and call them your own or try and start threads about the zilloin gallon pond your putting in your back yard this summer break with all your rtcs in it

I think you guys are taking it too personally honestly. The people that blow off young kids just because they are young are not the kind of people who's respect you want anyways. I mean Im older now, but even when I was younger if somebody didn't want to listen to me because of my age...fine that is thier problem. And on this site there is little to no long term members who are that disrespectful.

I agree it is usually only trolls. Personally I have never been treated differently on this site becuase of my age. I think it is a respect thing.

Just like how everyone says You have to give respect to recieve it.

People are entitled to their opinions, whether it is right or wrong to voice them in certain situations is questionable. But, this is an online forum. If your being offended by people saying "puking 13 year olds", this will become a good wake-up call for when you reach the real world. Stereotypes can be applied to anyone and most people do them unknowingly. You just have to accept the fact that people will think what they want and you have to be the better person by just shrugging it off.

I don't feel like I'm treated differently here and I'm 17. Its how you respond and react when certain situations occur. Even I'm guilty of loosing my cool and snapping on another member or troll. Which I'm usually remorseful for later (if it was a member).

My opinion on the puking comment, is that I'm not offended by it. To be honest I wouldn't even consider it a stereotype since its not accurate at all. Was he implying we all drink underage and can't hold our liquor or that we are all anorexic?

Yo I know about stereotypes im Peruvian living amongst white people, I get a fare share of stereotyping I also dish out. in real life its fine I just laugh and move on because most of the people are just ignorant uneducated, or they are just messing with me but people here seem to be very irritated by the presence of young people. there was a whole thread about trying to set an age limit or charge an annual fee to discourage all of us younger folk.

same most people dont actually know my age until I say it thats one of the things that gets me is that they are pMing me and complaining about teen agers then im like yeah im 15 but I get what you are saying.

Im 14, and my dad trusts me enough to spend buy basically whatever I want for my two tanks. I just have to be responsible enough to make the final decision about it. When I go to petco, the guys at my local store are pretty cool. They don't talk down to me, they just talk in a way that you would talk to a teenager. I actually didn't buy fish this one day when I went in there specifically for fish, because I had a brain fart and couldn't remember the name of the three striped damsels So I was looking in the tank for about 15 minutes just to walk away.

ehh im not following do your parents monitor your spending? I can do basically what ever I want my parents want me to be more independent. I spare no expense on my fish if there were fish massages I would give them that too

other day I spent half an hour staring at a common pleco swearing it was mis labeled then it moved and turned out to have a disformity in its face.
last time I did this I found an ancestrus tem in the tank I got her for 3 dollars!!! shes one of my favorites now

Hi, i now have a few tanks.
for over 30 years i lost interest in tanks.

when i was 7-15 years old my life revolved around tanks.
the lfs made a ton of money off of me.
bought books, tanks, supplies, fish.
spent every dollar i could come up with.
spent months reading and trying and failing and succeeding.

my main point, fish were my life.

30 years later i am just getting back into it.
i am sure that more than a few of these kids know more than i do.
what i do like is the fact that they TRY.
what is the best way to learn for me? to TRY.
i might fail, a lot. i also learn a lot.


so, to those kids on here, a small bit of advice.
try to keep the drama down and when some adult tries to knock your spirits down,
just be more mature than them and keep trying.

you have just as much of a right to try and aspire to be a MFK as me(and i have a lot to learn) or anyone else.

just wish i had a resource like this when i was a kid.

That thread was about there being ads in between post and people rather paying a small amount annually so they wouldn't receive ads. It was never directed at discouraging the younger members because they didn't have the means to pay.
