QUALITY MIDAS??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think he'll be a good project so I'll give him a go... should look stunning in my community of big nasties, aswell.

Expect some pics of him settling in soon

He's a nice looking male, give him some time to fill out and he should turn into a champ. Good luck with him.

Negative - the fish that you pictured from Rapps is obviously an orange midas, that could potentially shift to white, or part white, or stay orange, perhaps even a darker orange with an adjustement in diet.

It will not become red, and as others have stated the quality of a fish is in the eye of the beholder, unlike pureberd dog shows there are no ideal confirmation type standards for midas.

And the reason for that is so that history doesn't keep repeating itself, which is generally a good thing. Ignorance is only bliss in the mind of an idiot.

I agree

Cool... so could this fish....

...potential color up to this fish?

From my experience no. Only my true red devils have actually had the red coloring your looking for.

However the conformation on the little midas would be worlds better than the red midevil in the bottom picture which would look great as a show piece. Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder though.

Well I picked him up this evening and he looked even better in the flesh... Once hes settled in I'll take some pics. I'm very pleased.

Forgot to mention... This guy is a F1 from a Jeff Rapps wild breeding pair.

Well after a bit less than 24 hours he seems to have settled in well... I'll be moving out the Jags in due course once I've decided on the best male amongst those and have hopefully a nice selection of larger American cichlid species.

if he is that color, you can get red face and trims out of him if he gets enough sunlight and red enhancing food. . Because Rapps picture he is yellow.
You don't beleve in the sunlight but I do

Wow looks fantastic. Better looking than the stock pic.

Looks great! He won't turn red but with proper diet and care he could intensify more in the orange spectrum. Sunlight would help as AG stated, but I'm guessing that being in the UK your tank isn't outdoors. :)

Either way, great looking specimen and he should get even better with time.
