Had to bump this up! Beauty he is! You really should put that new camera to work and post more photos! I also picked up a couple Trimacs from Rapps a couple of months ago and just threw them in a pond..... got around to fishing them out just the other day! Boy, they've grown but unfortunately the female is larger than the male as of now..... they're showing nice color and aggression at 3"!

Thank you, he really turned out better than I had hoped. That's funny about your female, the one I had grew like crazy too and was the meanest one in the tank. From what I saw, if I hadn't separated her she would still be ruling the tank. Keep an eye on her, Rapps supplies some big mean ladies:ROFL:

Post up some pics of yours when you pull them out of the pond again, I'd love to see them. I'm glad to hear yours are coloring up early. Mine was kinda drab until he hit the 4" mark. He had me worried:eek:

Unfortunately, I let the battery die on me camera but I'll take some more pics this weekend and post them.

This thread almost makes me wish I had gotten one instead of a carpintis. We'll see how he turns out though. :)

Get one, you won't regret it:naughty:

Well, battery charged sooner than I had expected so here you go House_64:D

Here's my first attempt at a video. He loves his Hikari BioGold!! I usually feed him more but I only threw in a couple for the video since he had already eaten for the night.

Enjoy!!!

Hey Demetrios... thanks for posting those! I skimmed thru the thread again and can't recall the size tank he's in and if he's solitary? The male that I have seems to have a shorter, stocky body.... with a hue of red on his/her tail! I have them in a divided tank.... I would have bought more but at the time Rapps only had 2 - 2' available... all the others were a lot smaller. Funny thing is he said he had two left with really nice colors.... they do but I wonder if he was pulling my chain .....

Very nice colors! One thing that is not immediately apparent from many Trimac pictures -- and yours have done a better job than mine here -- is how amazing the metallic blue/green "ring" surrounding the black spots on the body looks. I have unsuccessfully tried to capture it for sometime now; maybe its due to a combination of lack of better camera and lack of better photography skills ;-) I would bet the colors in real-life would be much better with your fish too.

Very nice job raising him.

He's in a 72g bowfront in my upstairs living room now but will eventually have my 150g in the basement to himself. He'd be there now but my basement is not a finished living space and I really enjoy interacting with him. I'm working on the wife to move the 150g up to the first floor living room though:naughty: I have 4 Yoyo loaches and an Ornate Bichir in there with him but the Yoyo's are being moved this weekend since he gives them hell at night. He doesn't bother with the Poly so I'll leave them together for now.

You gotta post up some pics!!! I don't remember mine looking stocky but they definitely had the red hue on their fins. The red hue started to go away when the pink on the throat and yellow on the body started coming in.

By the way, Jeff posted pics of his pair in a thread under the Vendor section. They look like brutes and both have some really nice finnage!! I was pleasantly surprised to see them posted. Always wanted to see what the parents looked like.

Thanks man, you've done an excellent job yourself. Funny you mention that about the "rings". Must be the camera since my skills sure as hell haven't improved but the camera has. The rings are always pretty pronounced on him but sometimes they look like they're glowing. I know what you mean about the real-life colors on these guys, it really is hard to capture how nice they are with a camera.

Best part was seeing my wife's opinion of him change as he grew. We went from 4 months of "that's such a boring looking fish" to "wow, he's beautiful, this can't be the same fish!!"
