So, your topic, information, and pictures were a bit misleading! You're using a natural filtration method, and not turning the filters on every so often. Your biological filtration remains in place, the water isn't a stagnant mess as your pics and description indicate.

You just need to do a better job of describing your filtration methods, as Clay did above. You make it sound like you don't filter your water except every once in a while, and the color of that water usually indicates very bad water quality.
If you made it clear that you filter the water using the grow beds, only use a regular filter occasionally for mechanical filtering, and the color of the water comes from nutrient additives for the plants, that will change a lot of peoples perceptions about your setups.
I actually plan on setting up my aquariums to be filtered by grow beds once I move, so that we can grow veggies hydroponically and filter the water at the same time.
