but overall, after looking at it again, the corals seem like they're all opened, with the exception of some of the pipe organ coral and the brain coral.

as for the sand bed, they could use a deep sand bed, a plenum system, or a bare bottom or just a little sand, there are different theories, and methods of maintaining a tank., just personal experiences influencing personal preferences in my opinion.

7 but give it some time and maturity

its a 10 for someone like me but compared to some of the reef tanks ive seen, id say 6

The tank itself has been running for a long time, it's just a new display set up.
The plan is to scrap the whole thing next summer and have a new (larger) tank installed with room for more lights, a larger sump, Calcium reactor and larger skimmer. With more lights and a taller tank, I'd love to see some stoney stuff growing in there.

The pipe organ/hammer and elegance are quite a story. We ordered a bunch of stuff, but never heard about it being shipped. Couple of days later the airport called us...apparently it was sitting there a few days. They had the wrong contact phone number when they tried calling. I'm surprised anything lived at all from that shipment.

I think that, all in all, your girl made quite an impression and she is on the upwards curve in reef keeping. Let her know that, please, from us old geezers.
