Your UV dosage is at 150mJ/cm^2......3x the standard required for normal tanks. This may have helped in both oxidation and parasite control. If you got bad water out of the tap this will help as well.

How does a UV increase dissolved oxygen? Removing pathogen that would otherwise consume the O2?

Makes it so much easier to justify that $900-$1300 UV you need for that 1K gallon system doesn't it? Just another drop in the bucket right? If not, then sell the fish huh?

I don't understand what your point is here - are you against UV because they're expensive? Are you saying not to get one because if you have 'fight' everything will be fine?
There's plenty of people with enough money, but no drive or ability to comprehend and apply the right information. Just as bad probobly worse then the guy keeping nice rays on a budget. Just cause someone has a fancy high end bead filter doesn't mean they even know it needs to be backflushed. Just cause they can afford doesn't mean they can maintain any better. Should they sell their fish too?
It's a 2 way street.
Who are all these people with 1k gallon systems that don't know how their equipment works? I would think if someone spends the money and time to set that up, and buy $1800 rays they would know how to work their system. A 1k gallon system is no joke to install or maintain. Maybe there's a group of rich people out there who wake up with systems magically installed for them?
I don't see what's so controversial about allocating less than 10% of your budget to something that's proven to be beneficial for your system.

I said nothing about not needing UV or that you shouldn't run it. I said I don't agree with the fact that you have to have all this fancy expensive stuff to keep nice fish, and if you don't have it you should sell your fish to someone that does. The point I was trying to make was just cause you can afford all that fancy stuff doesn't make you a better fishkeeper. Simply implying some of the stuff this fancy equipment does can be achieved through labor. Getting the same results through different means. I know, for some it's a hard concept to understand.
Truth is I'll more then likely be dropping the money on a UV sterilizer for my "little tank". And even though I'm sure I could just daisy chain a couple of cheap low wattage UVs and get the same result, I'll be opting for the best one I can find for what I have, regardless that it will cost the kind of money I was talking about.

See if you had said that instead of that long response that was hard to understand we would have understood. I see your point though and why not just daisy chain them together? I dont see the need for spending 900 or whatever that absurd amount was on one piece of equipment, i personally wouldnt unless it was a saltwater setup then you get into high dollar stuff. I believe the chart of units kendragon posted listed one for $250 that was for 1500 gallons? I dont know where it was and i havent the time to go searching for it but that seems very reasonable. Especially when i spent 140 on a 9 watt unit thats only purpose when i got it was to prevent algae blooms.

Anyone paying $900-1300 for a UV to treat a 1k tank is getting ripped off
Like I said run 4 x 25w back to back giving you 100w of UV and pump 250 gal per hour through it and you will be fine
I think it's all down to personal choice I have always used one do always will
It's not just the rays you need to worry about if you have a mixed comm tank
If you have bass or clown loach who are prone to ick with big changes in water temp which you get with the big water changes needed with rays
Everyone runs there system the way they like some use UV some use sand filter bead filter moving bed sump canister
People can only recommend what they feel benefits the tank if others wish to take that advice they can
