your ray should be fine with your current stock. i kept mine with flagtails, arowana and oscars. never had any problems.
just keep an eye out for your polyterus. he may nibble at rays side's.
best wishes

price and size wise whats my absolute best bet? also .. if i have both side of my tank somewhat filled with stuff that im not sure if hed be able to get around but he still have the majority of the tank (pretty much whole center other then a 10" on either side say .. will he still be fine for space wise? i know NOTHING about rays are you can tell ...

im in the uk and the prices for a motoro ray (recommended) have gone up from £85 to £130 in a few months for a 4-5''. im not sure about the price where you are so best ask someone in your region.
should get a sand substrate or smallest size pea gravel for them to burrow under.
food - anything meaty.mine ate mussel meat and frozen bloodworm from 1st day i got them.

rays arent as difficult to keep as people say they are. just make sure to do at least 1 weekly water change and everything should go well.

yah im using pool filter sand so that should be fine. i just hope they arent to expensive to buy cause my budget will be low and the other fish arent going to be cheap either.

footprint isn't great for any ray. so cat all the way

im going to get in trouble from ray purists for saying this. but ive got a pair in a 24'' wide tank. kept them in there since 4'' pups and never had any issues. one is 16'' now and is okay.

and since when have you seen a 24'' ray in captivity? i havent.
but bigger the better i say otherwisejust squeeze them in.
