so yours are the ones your saying that "apparently" go to 30" but wont do it in captivity? and youve had them almost 2 years and only 16" now from 4"? .. well thats not too bad. would hysterix still be better if i could get one of those instead? or any other type?

yes. i would saay 30 in the wild. but, thats just my personal opinion. i totally recommend keeping them and do a bit of research first. lots off diferent rays in our hobby and i cant give you advice on the hysterix, cos never kept them.
motoro's are easy to keep. regular water changes and a good diet is the key.
what are u keeping at the moment?

nothing at the moment .. dont have an aquarium set up. my 225 is sitting here with water in it (as of today) waiting 2 more days for my pump to get here then start cycling .. im using my old 50 for sump and old 10 gallon for feeders after. (if need be). my 2x oscars went to two different friends and my last convict died in the moving/switching tanks process. so don't have anything yet. waiting on lfs to put together a price/size list of what i want for me.

I would deffantly go for the hystrix. you can house a pair in you tank for life. they are easy to care for and harty eaters. The only downside is availiblity they are fairly hard to come by. and thus they comand A higher price. if you can get one for $125 you got a really good deal.

on a side note post up your questions (after looking at the stickys on rays) in the ray area. there are people on there who know ALOT more about rays then me.

good luck - delhezi b

lima wont dissapoint im just telling you i think sometimes people here advise novice members to get this cool WOW factor rare fish than to get a hardy neat and interesting fish

yah, i still like them but rays have just caught my interest alot. plus a ray + my gf will get along better. since if i get anything bigger then 4" that had "whiskers" she says her staying here mightn happen haha. i could convince her im sure but if a ray is more interesting to me now plus that factor i think ive convinced myself to go with a ray

exactly. not the chat i was looking to have, just mentioned it to explain part of the reason i was looking for a cat replacement. when i rays poped into my head. sudden addiction. im starting reading/studying up alot on them tonight. hopefully i can get a decent price on one

get them quick. rays in the uk have gone up in price by 50% since earlier on in the year.wouldnt be suprised they would be banned by cites this time next year and then you would have to pay a fortune for them.
that was thw case with the blue eye panaques catfish and the zebra plec. in the uk they use to cost 20-40 for them 2 species not so long ago. now the blue eye panaques cost £1000. and the once common zebra plec £200-300
