In an attempt to keep this conversation some what on an intelligent level i will disregard anything not pertaining to the breeding or cohabitation of certain Serrasalmus sp. With that said, Was there anything special that you did when introducing your Spilos? or did you just throw them in? Is there anyone else with a Serra. cohab going on here? Not like Serras and Pygos, but of two of the same Serra? JoeDizzle, do you notice any prominant differences in your two fish, or are they pretty much the same? color wise, shape, finnage or anything of that nature? Also if anyone knows of where to find a semi-large all silver brandtii i think i would be interested in picking one up.. On one of the forums i also saw a person with two elongatus in the same tank.. so i do believe that there is a way.. maybe if we just get the right match the fish will do the rest..[/quote]
exactly... the problem is finding those two fish, ha.
the ones that i have now were selected from a group of 6, i sat and watched them interacting in the same tank and took the two that i thought would work best. of the six, my bigger mac was the biggest in the tank and the other was almost the same size as the others.
there was one aggressor in the tank that was just going after everybody, but the two that i have now were the only ones to stand up to him. i also had noticed that my pair were constantly next to each other and reacted very differently towards each other than towards the others.
once i got them home, the big one went into the tank first, gave him a bit of time to calm down and then added the other. the bigger fish is definitely the more dominant of the two, but i don't say that because of aggression, i say that because they still are next to each other all time, much like the picture you saw, but the little guy follows him all over and always eats second.
other than the behavior and size, there are no real differences between the two, the smaller one looks like a miniature version of the big guy.
