whoa...thought owning one included seeing the real deal but I guess those are two different things lol I've seen one too and my f1s are from a beautiful wild big-lipped beast devil

His name is Phycho, he's a family pet about 3.5 yrs old now I guess and about 13.5". I bought him at Shark Aquarum here in New Jersey. Here's a couple of pics. Top is baby pic about 2" and bottom he was about 12".
Great looking fish... but didn't he look a lot like mine especially in color when he was 2"... gives me a lot of encouragement seeing those pics I had a RD as a school kid through most of my young life.... he lived for 16 years and it was sad when he died
heres some of my beast hes about 8 1/2" now and paired up with a 6" female and im hoping for a spawn soon. I'm super proud of raising this fish and love to show him off
By the way no one has any right to name a fish unless you're a scientist so I don't recognise the term Midevils... My fish were sold as Red Devils so thats what I'll call them for now.
Then you shouldn't recognise the term "red devil" either, as that is what's known as a common name most likely created for marketing purposes, and by some is used for both citrinellum, and labiatum. The natives in Nicaragua don't refer to labiatus as El Diablo Rojo, they refer to them as Mojarra, as they do most of the food fish found in the crater lakes. The vast majority of locals don't care about genetics as they have no plans on keeping them in an aquarium, they plan on eating them.
And this is precisely why common names cause problems, especially when used for closely related species, such as citrinellum & labiatum. This is also why the term "midevil" has been coined on this forum, to help those who keep these fish understand that it isn't responsible to breed them, and sell the fry as one species or the other, as the chances are great that their fish are of mixed genetics.
Thanks again guys... By the way no one has any right to name a fish unless you're a scientist so I don't recognise the term Midevils... My fish were sold as Red Devils so thats what I'll call them for now.
Yes I'm trolling for opinions... what wrong with that - I'm not trying to upset anyone. If some people see that differently then you need to take a long hard look at yourselves... I've been talked down to by RD, Modest_Man and a few others on here... tried to keep this debate open and honest and ended up getting called ignorant by at least two members... Nice people on this site
Is it normal for people on this site to be so flippant?
