This was @ $5 per 50lb bag from an abrasives dealer in Milwaukee 5 or so years ago, it is where all the bonsai tree growers went for that type substrate.

I googled Arizona Abrasive Supply, and found a number of companies (Phoenix, Tempe etc)
I didn't look further but so some may not carry exactly what you want, but you may be looking in the wrong ptops,

You can try Sandtastik, a Canadian company. They have 30 colors on their website. Go with the floral sand with the large heavy grain. To save cost (if your tank is super big) you can mix it with cheaper sand and still get the effect you want. Say mix red/white/black.

A lot of bichir keepers use barton garnet sand for many years now.
