Red saum

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I currently have several red saum growouts that came from my pair of gt's the male is silver and the lady is orange. Of the spawn some just happen to be red just like several are silver and a few are orange i don't think there is anything special about them unless u favor the color to red. It will be interesting to see how long the red's will stay red or if they change at all they are about 2.5-3" i will try and get a few pics this weekend.

From my understanding the red colorings will only intensified as they age. We could really use more of them in the hobby.

Honestly the ones that says the red ones are nothing special, show us yours!!! lol

GT with the red edgings are quite rare, I have only seen three live specimens so far.

Special or not is not the question. That depends on where around the world you live.We haven't been able to import Saums here for yrs yet Saums with good reddish colours are reasonably common to source here and are definitely nothing new.The true question in this whole thread is whether the posted fish is a different strain? 53 posts so far and still not a shred of evidence provided by anyone to back it up.:(

I hope XR doesn't mind but here is a pic Rapps sent him of a so called "Red Saum". I am posting this as it is the best and clearest pic I could find of a Saum claimed to be a red.Nice fish and all but someone please point out the difference as I truly don't see it.:)

i was planning to post that pic up yesterday acually, thanks. :) I bought the fish but jeff couldn't sell it to me do to health problems that arose the next few days. (traded for 12 TGT's). That red is 11"ish

Did the big male die XR? i remember reading your post, good decision going with the TRUE :) green terrors.

jeff told me he was getting better, but than i heard nothing back later on, and he was off the stocklist, so i really don't know.

green terrors- Saum and TGT's, have been known for not being hardy and dieing without reason. I've had the experience with them to know. and they do get internal parasites a good deal (bad eaters is the first sign). I hope all went well with that guy.

I'm curious as to what proof people are looking for? The only proof I know of to prove they are a only a differant color for or a differant species, or neither, would not occur until the genus is formally described, and the saums are scientificly described.

Until that happens, we can call them what ever we want, as there is zero proof to prove they are a only a color form of the gold saum (or silver saum) or in fact, zero proof they are not a differant species either.

Without said proof, it's all only opinion on our parts.

who's post are you attempting to quote? for the looks of it most people here believe exactly how you do. the species has not been formally described or researched- therefor there's no proveing they are a different species. Rapps did label them "Sp red saum" on his stocklist originally, meaning no formal research had been done of the species. and from what i've gathered it's just another varient of the gold saum. when research is done, than i'll believe if it is or isn't a gold saum with intense red fins.
