I haven't discredited anyones fry, I simply pointed out the obvious when buying 1" juvie RT's. I would say the same thing about any breeder/vendor, unless those fish had already peeled & were showing a strong base color, and snow white pearling.
This is exactly why some vendors sell small fry at such reasonable prices. Quality and/or eventual grade classification will be a roll of the dice & they know it, but at lower prices that gamble becomes attractive to many consumers. Nothing wrong with that. This is how some people do in fact get very nice fish at very reasonable prices.
I understand that you have great trust in this seller, which was stated early on in this discussion by yourself & Big_One, and that's good info to have for the OP, and PART of what the OP was enquiring about ..... but you've never even owned an RT, let alone raised any juvies, yet somehow you think that you can grade the quality of an entire tank full of 1" juvies, from nothing more than a somewhat blurry 25 second video? LMAO You must have super human powers.
I'm sure there will be some nice RT's out of that tank full of 1" fry, but the question remains - how many will actually be high quality, as advertised? How many will only partially peel, or never fade/peel, or be washed out orange in color, or have solid pearling with little to no base color showing? These are questions that I would imagine are also important to any potential customer of those $25 1" fry, or when considering $200+ semi mature RT's that have not completely peeled.
You previously stated that having better quality parents decreases the chance of getting
crappy fish, to which I agree, but when I look at some of the mature RT's on this vendors youtube page, what is that supposed to tell potential buyers?

The very fact that those two mature females are advertised as being "fertile", is laughable. What breeder in their right mind would actually buy either of those females for breeding purposes? Personally I wouldn't have those fish if they were offered to me for free, and I most certainly would never use them in any type of breeding program. Perhaps with your vast experience with RT's you feel differently.
They also have RT's that even at 6.5" have yet to even peel, which goes back to exactly what I described above. Some fish will make the grade, and sometimes others never will.

You state things such as
For the record Dave deals in quality fish, not local garbage. Those fry will be great.
Yet as shown above clearly not all of their RT are even remotely close to being what I would consider
great. That's not me discrediting their fish, their fry, or anything else. That's me givng an honest opinion based on what I have seen of their past/present RT stock. Nothing more, nothing less.
I would be more than happy to discuss this further, but I suspect by now the OP has a better understanding of what his odds are when buying random 1" unfaded RT fry from this vendor or any other.
Cheers!
