Yeah, long term a 55 is way to small for those 3 fish. You say 18 gallons each but the cichlids don't care to share evenly.

Well that escalated quickly... Few things to point out, shadowP and my issue with red light has been specifically with JD so that may be something. Also yes, long term the 55 is too small for all 3 fish but before the red light insident they were living more or less peacefully. There's another thread where we're talking about triggers in fish. This could be once such instance.

I think the red light thing could be valid just cuz it doesnt trigger something withy fish doesnt disprove anything but imo "long term" is now a thing of the past for these guys, sucks but you knew this would happen eventually 55 gal is too small right now and i think the fish are telling you that.

Good luck dude.

I think you are looking at coincidence. Fish aggression does not have to build slowly, the dominate fish can just "decide" one day that it is going to claim the tank and the peace comes to an end. I have had small fish like shell dwellers and Apistogramma snap, as well as larger fish like sevs and G. brasiliensis snap. If I was a betting man, I would place my money on your JD killing your EBJD in the coming months if you leave them undivided.

That is why you will see the guys that have fish rooms rarely running tanks with several territorial species. After a while, you get tired of beat up fish. Trying odd mixes is still a good learning experience in my opinion, but you will realize the success rate is low in anything smaller than a six foot tank.

Ya, the last day or so I've been thinking about waiting for a slightly bigger tank for duo wet pets and saving an aggressive cichlid community for a 1000 gallon dream tank =P

Definitely nothing wrong with learning from experience

Indeed. If I was to do it all again it would have been done very differently... Wouldn't have over stocked from the start (had 2 EBJD, 2 JD and 2 jewels) and I would have gotten a 75 (or rather told my wife not to get me a 55...). Also don't know if I would have picked up the bleekeri. Lovely fish and has actually worked out really well (dispite what others have said) but I don't know if I'd still do him again.

I didnt misread anything you wrote.
Thanks for posting your results. I agree... allotted space per fish does play a part. How much? We don't know. Do we? Each fish is it's own individual with it's own personality, partly as to the norm within a given species, and partly as to environmental factors. I raise my jacks with lots of dithers. I remove the dithers to other tanks when the JDs start to become a threat. It works for me. I end up with Jacks that pretty much ignore the smaller fish around them, even to the extent of gently pushing an injured (caught by filter intake) dither out of his school of guarded fry, and I mean fry! (1/4" at best).

And I never wrote that you misread anything... I wrote that you were misquoting what I wrote and you proved that point yet again.

Short of a keyboard, it is termed texting. Had it been on a keyboard I would have called it typing, but in either event the auditory aspect is missing and therefore not considered saying or having been said.
Would you still like to argue semantics with more of your "Wo" mockery?

No big deal man we all have done similar things. Live and learn...infact never stop learning
