and unless you are running black water fish, EI angels, ph is not an issue and not to be messed with.

also, if you are using API master fresh test kit, with the nitrate test, bottle#2 need the freeking pee shook before adding the drops to the test water, and I do mean the pee shook out of it, beat on a desk what , this needs to be done for a good 3 minutes.

no thats not ideal, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, some nitrate is ideal, nitrate should be between 5 and 20 to be ideal, 20 is water change time.

no healthy tank has 0 nitrate.

for some reason that I am not seeing, your tank is either not cycled at all, or tests not reading right, even if a mini cycle, meaning the filter are not caught up, or BB disruption there should still be nitrate in the water. The fact that is none suggest the tank is not cycled at all, esp with the bacteria boom along with. I suggest you do not touch your filters for 6 weeks, do not add anything to the water. do 50 to 90% water changes every other day. until you start getting some kind of nitrate reading.

Okay the only thing I've added is some bio media in the second filter I'm running to match the first one. The test kit I got is marineland test kit, which just involves dipping strip into water and matching up with readings on bottle. With no nitrates, should I be feeding at all? All fish are behaving normal, and I'm about to do a water change. You suggest 50%?

I personally do 90% water changes every water change, yes feed but not allot, only 5 days of the week and only once a day, and no more than they will scarf with attitude in 3 minutes. Thursdays and Saturdays are no feed days for me, the fish will be fine, by and large we tend to really over feed our fish.

Test strips are worthless for the most part, get a API master fresh water test kit, link below.

Thank you for all the info, if I may ask, what type of water do you have if you're doing such big changes? I have regular well water softened with a whole house salt system.

the only test you need to be interested in is the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.
