for some reason that I am not seeing, your tank is either not cycled at all, or tests not reading right, even if a mini cycle, meaning the filter are not caught up, or BB disruption there should still be nitrate in the water. The fact that is none suggest the tank is not cycled at all, esp with the bacteria boom along with. I suggest you do not touch your filters for 6 weeks, do not add anything to the water. do 50 to 90% water changes every other day. until you start getting some kind of nitrate reading.

I agree and hence why asked about parameters. Looks like tank hasnt cycled, imo.

city water, I use SeaChem safe to condition the tank before adding new water, all filters and sponges are rinsed in old tank water while draining the tank in a 5g bucket. the water draining flows into a over flowing 5g bucket, again this what I rinse my filters and such in while the tank is draining.

So it's safe for me to perform a 50% change? Last time I changed was 2 days ago and I did 20%

yes it is. long as water temp is close, no need to be perfect, nothing but good from large water changes.

Large and often water changes are the best thing you can do for your fish.

I will keep this information in mind, thanks again for helping me out with this. I'll post pics and update everybody in a couple weeks on how it's going.

sounds good, keep the water changes going, leave the filters alone and you and your fish should be fine.
looking forward to updates, :)

Am I the only one who's going to call out the salt softening system? Bad, bad thing for freshwater fish.
