Rhino iguana...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, he didn't do much walking at the pet store. He's in a pretty small enclosure, and when he did move, he kind of leapt across the cage. He definitely wasn't dragging his belly or pelvis. And he seemed very strong for his size when I was holding him. He looks good to me in person, but then I've never seen another rhino iguana in person before.

When I stop by the store tonight, I'll make sure to get him out and let him move around on his own to see how he moves.

I stopped by the store and handled the iguana after work. He was feisty, and when I set him down, he walked with his pelvis held up, not dragging anything. It kind of looks like a male from what I could see. I could definitely pick out the femoral pores on the legs, and it looks like he's already got a little bit of jowls starting to develop.

I guess we'll find out, since I put down a deposit on him :D. I should be picking him up to go home either next weekend, or maybe a week or two after that (depends on my paychecks and what unexpected bills pop up between now and then).

Hopefully I can pick up the terrarium this weekend and get started on decorating it and get it completely ready for him to come home.

:headbang2 I'm so stoked you couldn't believe it...

Not completely sure yet on the enclosure once he gets fully grown. With any luck, we'll be at a new house where I can devote an entire room to him being out all the time. if not, I'll build him something along the lines of 8x4x4 or 8x4x6 (lxwxh), and just try to keep him out as much as possible. I'm pretty hand with wood and carpentry, so I ought to be able to build him a really nice enclosure in the future.

One of the these days I'll have an "Iguana Build" similar to Lepisosteus platyrhincus' "Caiman Build". Except I'll actually put an iguana in mine... ;)

congrats! one question, how to you potty train a lizard? tell it "no, bad iguana!" when it craps on the floor?

I've actually read a few articles online detailing how to do it. Basically you try to feed them the same time every day, so that they defecate the same time every day. Then, before they defecate, you put them in a little box. If they leave it without pooping, put them back. And you just keep putting them back until they poop. Then you let them leave. Eventually, after weeks of doing this, they supposedly figure out that's where they're supposed to poop!

:D Sorry, I just had to poke fun at you. I can't wait till the day you finally get to put a caiman in there!

Very nice possible purchase men :) The best suplement would be zoomed´s reptivite. Make shure you have your refrigerator full stocked with dark leafys like the ones you would use for a green ig and get a good quality uv ligth.
