What do you think happened? Temperature shock? De chlorinating?
I’m not really sure what happened all my other bichirs seemed fine, but I noticed the ornate and buettikoferi sitting at the top of the aquarium taking in air often and knew something was wrong

Call me stupid, in scratching my head as to what happened that killed the fish.

I've done 80% changes, all the way down to where the fish were just covered in water with no issues.

Sorry for your loss.

Man sorry for the loss that's a bummer. The water company could have been treating the water with something different then they normally do. I almost had the same thing happened one time two years ago on a larger water change. It might be a good ideas to up your dechlorinator for good measure. Rip.

sounds like something happened and it tipped your tank into a mini cycle. i would have tested the water when it was cloudy before the water change to see what was going on. sorry for the loss friend.
