Rtc & Snc tank mates?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my 800 gallon tank and sump cost me $2K (this is not a realistic price, i got a deal that honestly can't be beat on a used tank), i still need to buy pumps and all of the plumbing and i'm going to have to pay people to assemble the tank for me. i know i have the help of a few VERY experienced aquarists that will help a great deal, but it's still going to cost me a LOT more money.

it will probably take me another 6 months to get it up and running once the room is ready for it. i still have to remove the carpet and put flooring in the room. i'm lucky to have a house that is build on a concrete slab. if i was in a house with a crawl space or no concrete foundation at all i would be spending huge amounts of money to reinforce the floor of my house also.

they both grow quite quickly, but the RTC will outgrow your TSN, it won't be a contest.

the 300 will likely be good for a year.. maybe even 18 months. but your RTC will reach 2 ft. before it's 2 years old and a 300 gallon is going to be too small before the RTC before that.

Lol 2 ft by 2yrs?? Mine went from 2" to 2ft in 6months

yea, ok.. Lucy was just over 1 ft at 9 months, and she was closing in on 2 ft around 18 months.. then her growth slowed, and she was 30 inches when she died at 2 1/2 years.

and it's entirely possible that her growth slowed because i couldn't change the situation that my exhusband left her in. when he left he promised to come back for her in a matter of a few weeks or months, and it's been almost 3 years since i have heard from him.

Wow I am now alittle worried to see Tom ( my rtc) grow..... So a rtc won't stop at 2 1/2ft? And morledzep sorry to ask but yours died because it stunted out?

Sorry. I guess that sounded ratger rude. I didn't mean to imply that it was you causing the slow growth. Mainly just saying their growth can be much much quicker. I have a 320gal pond 6'round by 2 deep. Thought it would last a yr. Now 8months later I'm in the middle of building a 12x6x3. They grow that fast!

That pound you have is 300 gallon? How much was the cost to build that?

About $400 total if I remeber correctly
$160 actual pond
$100 insulation
$150 pump (got a great deal considering it's a $450 pump)
$100 filter/Plumming

no, stunting wasn't her problem.. her body shape didn't show any signs of stunting and she was generally in good health. i spent twice as much time taking care of her and kabota than i did any of my other fish. water changes almost every day because i knew that she was in a bad situation.

the only reason kabota (my TSN) was with her was because when i separated them they sat at the ends of the tanks and looked at each other and wouldn't eat or anything else.

in the end, what killed her was that she threw up and poisoned the tank water. unfortunately she took my precious kabota with her.

i will eventually get another TSN, but i doubt seriously if i will ever get another RTC or RTC hybrid.

Ok I measured this morning the best I can do is 9ft by 6ft indoor pound. And it can be how ever high. I was guessing 3ft. Would that do? I can't do 10ft long I don't have enough room.

Also earlier someone said my filtration on my 75 was bad. I have 2 70 gallon filters what would be better? And brand ect.
