Tbh I see where Water is coming from, bigger is better. but its the pushy way that shes saying it. its condensending. and then the 4chan picture just made the whole thing immature.

All in all Yes bigger is better , Water is right. BUT its also true, after living there for a long time that England has tiny little houses with tiny little rooms and everything there costs about 3 times what it does in north america. I have a 5x3x2 wide and there's no way i could've had that in England.

I can straighten this argument out fairly easily,

Swarsh: If you want to keep the aro in that tank, go for it. It's your tank and don't let people push you around over an internet forum. If you really care about the longterm health of the fish then you would just choose a different stocking. as Water stated, its the width that's important. its better that the fish has 1' less in length, than 1' less in width. Personally, I witnessed that a lot of people in England keep fish in smaller tanks than over here. and not in a cruel way. they just tend to stock more to the minimum. whereas a lot of people on MFK go over that minimum and keep the fish in huge tanks. You have to understand the mentality of monsterfishkeepers on this forum. so they will defend their argument.

Water: Do you own an arowana? if you do then I hope you keep it in a 8'x3'x'3 or you will look like a hippocrit. I understand 100% where you are coming from but by keeping on at this guy all youre really doing is prolonging the argument. you gave your valuable advice, wether he takes it or not, you can be satisfied that you did your part to educate him.

Guys, we are all MFKers lets try to get along!

For the record, I'm not a girl. I was talking to Hao. I joke around with Hao. Swarsh happened to jump in with guns locked and loaded when it was just my opinion vs Hao's. Hao believes 6x2.5x2 is just fine. I think it's the bare minimum, but I don't aim for that. I wasn't pushing my views on anyone, I just merely told the OP what was the most ideal for an Asian Aro. It's his choice to accept my views. I don't need someone coming in telling me that 4x2x2 tanks are acceptable. And for the record, I'm growing out my aro in a 150. It's only about 10". Once he hits 18", he's going in a 14'x6'x6' pond and I do have the pics to prove that the pond is all set up.

And Strat, My words may seen condescending, but I have no intention of sounding that way at all. My apologies if any offense was taken.

My aro is in a 6.5x2.5x2.5 which I think is ideal for him but my point is that not everyone has a big enough house for a big tank and I have seen aros in 4x2x2 and healthy.
I agree bigger the better.

And I'm not doubting the fact that you don't have a big tank because frankly I really am not that fussed just know that not everyone has a big enough house to have huge monster pond and tanks. Just seemed to me that your in your amazing life and don't seem to be able to see from other perspectives.
But enough of this, I agree with your way of fish keeping. If you can give them a big environment then fair play

I don't know why you think I have an amazing life. It wasn't until earlier this year that I could afford this 150gallon tank. The pond isn't even mine, it's my uncles who always wanted an Arowana. I plan well ahead when I purchase any monster fish. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get a 300 by the end of this year but by then the Aro will already be in the pond. If I can't house an animal properly, I do the obvious. I don't buy it.

Oh so the arowana expert with the 150 gallon tank is giving the advice now?

also sorry for assuming youre a girl, but with a girl as your avatar you kind of invite that assumption

So lay off of smarsh's tank size when you yourself couldn't house the fish. infact the fish would be healthier in smarsh's minimum specs than in one of those tiny cramped LFS tanks.

I see 1000 dollar arro's in stores here and nobody buys them so they end up stunting and looking all dwarfed.

So with this reasoning... you are a fish!

Just said the same thing to my brother when he asked what I was doing. Also on an unrelated note, My girlfriends mother originally comes from Nha Trang (before the war) small world

on topic, or somewhat at least,

I buy fish if I like them, if they get too big there is always the frying pan. simple solution to what most make into a big ordeal.
