I don't want to quibble here but fx5 for $200. What planet do you live on? My lfs will order anything I want. Fish, plants, fish food and equipment. No added fees. The prices are a little higher until you consider what the cost would be with shipping. And you deal face to face.

Fx5 229.99 w/s&h online. My lfs:399.99

Eheim jager 300watt @ petmountain.com 25.99 my lfs 79.99

Almost everything is cheaper online. In store sales are really the only exception, that's really the only reason I even go to my lfs beside the fishes :)

I'm glad it is a different place. F1..$229 with s&h come on give us a web site. Point is if some of you would shop at lfs once in awhile maybe they could stay in business.

I've been through this before and very recently....What used to be the best shop in my immediate area has finally closed down after seemingly being on life support for some time.

There aren't any stores near me that even sell FX5s, AC110s, safe, and many other supplies. I'm forced to go to petco just to get NLS when I don't order online soon enough. I have nothing against supporting my LFS but when they don't carry the products I need then I'm forced to go online for it. I still try to get as much of my fish locally though since the stock is usually pretty good.

Countryboy does make a good point about the stores needing more support but its just hard when the deals online are better.

Right now the surviving fish stores are heavy on specialized live stock, low rent(warehouses), maybe bulky items and perishables...and light on things like filters, dry food, etc.

If only people still would. my lfs is lucky, been around for a good 15-18 years so all the loyal customers still come.

As for FX5s prices etc. If you did go to a LFS often and they liked you the price difference is not so high. Mine will actually match what ever price I can find it on long as its new and not of craigslist etc ebays ok.

Yes we lost out in the St. Louis area when Beldt's closed down, I live in St. Charles where the only lfs is Ponds Plus but he is limited, I use Malawi Aquatics, when I need a specialty fish, very knowledgeable people in there, I'd like to try a couple of places in south county but I hate driving down there.
