I went a different route on the sand. I bought 3M ColorQuartz sand. It comes in all different colors, it won't leach colors into the water, it's pre-screened for size, it won't crush (because its quartz), and it's too heavy to get disturbed easily by water flow. The only problem is, you must find someone that supplies it. There is another thread on here that I started awhile ago about this when I looked it up. It has a link to find a local supplier near you (search engine type). It's a little more expensive as well, at around $35/50lb bag. I think the cost trade-off is more than worth the appearance!

yeah. I just switched to sand a few days ago.
I got play sand from Home Depot at less than 3 bucks for a 50lb. bag.
It really needs to be cleaned alot.
I am going to try pool filter sand.

Yea the colorquartz stuff looks amazing especially in black...going to move over to that in the near future. For now using just plain old pool filter sand I believe from Leslie's pool supply.

i second the Color quartz sand! get S grade if u want it to be more like sand, there's a T grade but its more like small gravel.

3M s grade is very heavy and wont blow around. but if ur really worried then go with the T grade, ive heard of it it working successfully with rays.
