That's what I was thinking...and at the price Purigen is, I want to keep all I can, IN, the mesh bag...
That was my logic :) Im surprised I didn't get flamed any more after mentioning "the bag" lol

I ordered some of the 100 ml packs for my feeder breeders and tanks so hopefully they don't float. I should have mentioned earlier that ive found that the purigen lasts longer when fresh carbon is in use as well and it gives the water an even more invisible look to it. :headbang2

Bleach will eat holes in those the cheap bags and the mesh allows purigen to leave the bag and into your tank

Well, I was really just trying to give carswell & d-sting a hard time about endorsing an $8 bag, but good call on the bleach thing, I hadn't thought of that. As far as my "cheap" bags go, the HBH ones are extremely fine, so no way anything would get through there, but I can see how that might happen on the improvised laundry/nylon stocking bags. After a closer look, I think "the bag" is actually much bigger, but I could still buy 10 of them for that same 8bux...

so does purigen replace carbon all together or do you use both? i was going to get some and use both but from reading on here i shouldnt bother.

I got it in a Nylon stocking doubled and some of the finer grains were still able to get out during rinsing...Hopefully it will stay put in the canister

This is what i did. I was so excited when I got it home I realized I didn't have anything worth while to put the stuff in. A yell up to my mother from the basement and a weird request for a pair of her pantyhose later I had what I needed. Your right though Some of it still escaped even through a double lining. I am going to need to get a better quality bag ASAP.

I must say the stuff has helped in clearing my tank up, I added it shortly after I did a little to much cleaning to my tank and I had some hazy water for a few weeks. It cleared the have within a few days.
I have not noticed any changes in water parameters after adding 250ml to my 125 gallon.
I am currently running it in a whisper 60 which I dont really like. I dont feel like the blueprint of these filters allow for optimal use of a product like purigen. I smooshed the panty hose with purigen into a pancake like shape. I then took the purigen and put it between two course scrubbing pads like a purigen sandwich of sorts. This way the purigen has something of a prefilter and heavens forbid if more of the purigen was able to escape the panty hose it would be caught by the second course pad. I would like to run It in a aquaclear or something along those lines where I could lay the purigen down horizontally instead of vertically as the purigen tends to settle when put in the filter vertically and alows alot of water to pass over and around.

I also put this stuff on a tank of which I recently added driftwood in much the same manner. I will say this stuff seems to do nothing for tannins, the water is clear but still tinted. For those of you who enjoy the stained look in your tanks you can still enjoy the clarity of using the product without loosing that tea look.

i ordered the 250ml bottle and the bag a few days ago. water is clear but you can see particles floating in it and my roommates love to open the big window and kitchen window facing it so i tend to get green water problems a lot... hope this stuff helps

There is alot of discussion on bagging the purigen in this thread, so I thought this was a good place to ask this question versus starting a new thread.

Will the 100ml bags that come with it stand up to the 1:1 bleach solution? And what is their dimension?

I find that my wife's nylons both hold the media in, and stand up to the 1:1 recharge. Now I don't know whether to worry about my fish or my wife, viv a viv circulation. Seriously, though, I really like this product; it is one of those really rare products that actually does what it claims to be able to do.--rick
