Seachem Stability: PUT TO THE TEST/blank slate (daily perams/pics)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've always done changes at 2.0, was even advised by customer support for tetra safestart that if the level gets above 2.0 to do a PWC (this was while doing the safestart method)

I don't know about the bacteria in the stability product, but the proper nitrifying bacteria, for the most part, adheres to the hard surfaces in the tank, so changing the water shouldn't do anything to it.

Do you happen to remember or have written down anywhere how high some of your reading got? Without fish loss, of course...
No I don't...I looked at it as if the first 8 days were for colonizing and the next 7, I treated like a long running tank. Water changes every 7 days there after like clockwork...;)

Hey guys. Good thing I found this thread! I'm on the third day of using stability and my reading so far is

ammonia .25
nitrite 0
nitrate 5

For the record, I have a brandnew 110 gal tank with new filter and subtrate. My water is pretty cloudy right now but since I'm cycling, I'm not too concern with that yet. All it matters is my tank will soon be cycled in no time! Thanks all.

When starting from absolute scratch (new substrate, decor, tubing, sump, etc) everything should read 0 with maybe a minor exception from any reading in the tap water, correct?

Correct, everything should read at zero unless you have nitrates in your water which I belive I do. I started another test with a blank slate and found 10ppm again so I am going to have to source water externally for the next test.

Everytime I use a bacteria starter, I never change the water until the tank is fully cycled. In my opinion, it is just like dumping all the bacteria starter out of the tank if water changes took place.

If you do a regular cycle with fishes with nothing else added, if you do water changes, it will prolong the cycle because you are dumping the bacteria out.

Well this is just my opinion on how I do things.

I'm not seeing much change or decreasing amounts yet, should I just wait it out?

150 gallon w/ 40 gallon sump (I've been using the measurement of 200 total gallons for dosing)- 2 Large plecos (good poopers), 1 Large Firemouth and 1 Large Green Terror added at the end of day 1. Water temp is consistent at 80, tested everyday at 1600 hrs, Stability added AFTER test.

Day 7 - Ammonia 25 ppm, Nitrates 10 ppm, Nitrites 25 ppm
