been looking @ this species online. found a good deal on 1-2" ones (small i know) for $15 a pc. as they get larger the price increases quick.
my question is, they say they can't be kept with any other fish. so does that mean not even other fish of there own kind? was wanting to get a breeding pair for future breeding and have a shoal. my tank is going to be around 315g when finished, 70"l,46"w,25"t. would hate to waste a whole tank on one damn fish.

with a big tank like yours you could try to have multiple ones at small size. the problem with them is that they are ambush predatory and ambush predatory tend to hunt alone and sees any other fish near by as either a threat or a prey. you might be able to get a few from small and cohab them in that tank for a period of time and/or up to certain size.
if they are that easy to shoal there will be tons of rhombeus shoal around in the hobby already. won't know for sure until you have tried it. maybe you'll get lucky.
if you want a shoal of piranha and want to have a breeding challenge then you can try caribe, piraya. Serra. Maculatus could also be done but more difficult and not always a success.

You might be the lucky one to house more than one in the same tank, but don't be surprised when you only have one left! There are some that can be kept together rbp, caribe, geryi, spilos, five cusped, n a couple others, but even with any of these you can't guarantee that they'll live peacefully or even breed!even piranhas that were raised together can n will turn on each other for a number of reasons n maybe no reason at all!

so pretty much if i get a black or 2 thats it, no other fish in the tank. lol that kinda sucks. was hoping to someday make a little extra cash off of some to help fund another build sometme n the distant future. i read that water temp makes agression hgher, so i was hoping/thinkin - keep the water around 75-76ish - maybe, JUST MAYBE they'd live peacefully lol.

If you're gonna try I would suggest getting more than 2. as with any aggressive fish, 2 alone in a tank is never a good idea.

I agree! I always heard with aggressive fish either keep 1 or 4or more to spread the aggression out.you have any work in progress pics of tank?

here is a coupe pics of the build in progress. i did a little more work on it yesterday actually. made a frame to hold the glass but ran out of DAP 3.0 wood glue so i haven't bothered putting it all the way in or taking pics of that.exterior deminsions are 70" long, 25"tall, 46"wide. its a little more than 25" tall now with the boards and cross bracing on top, maye 26".
