My thoughts exactly. People are too sensitive about things like this these days. Nature is violent, cruel, and unfair. What should be so different about this situation. The KILLER WHALE needs to be culled from the herd as there is no option of releasing as it was captive bred I believe.

I said a quick prayer for the trainer and his family/friends. He knew the risk though, and he probably loved what he did for a living very much. God bless his sole.

Why would we kill one of these magestic creatures? I'm sure if the trainer who died could send us a message, he would say to let the animal live. These are intelligent. We SHOULD NOT kill one because it killed it's trainer. The people who work with these animals know the risks and respect the creatures.

Should they release it into the wild? Should they keep it isolated in another tank to live out its life? Should they keep using it to perform in shows? I'm prety sure this Orca was born in captivity... It's more realistic that they will put this majestic creature down, than run the risk of a liability law suit by using a known killer for public entertainment. That would be very irresponsible, IMO. While I don't think they should use these animals as puppets, Its pretty hard to justify keeping an animal like that alive from a financial and business aspect. I know that's not what a lot of you people wanna hear, but thats a pretty realistic outlook on this matter. I think you should do a little research before letting your feelings and emotions get the best of you. just sayin'...

WoW!? Who would have thought? A "KIller" whale?......im stunned.....

Dont mean to sound insensitive, but...it's a killer whale, ya know? Sure it's black and white, looks cute, but these guys are some vicious predators in the wild...

First of all, a killer whale's captive life is a lot better than an elephant's. At least they are not beaten into submission with iron rods by brutal "trainers" (look it up, it's true)
With that being said, I have not read anything that suggests that an Orca would not do just fine if released. Killer whales live in Pods, and as soon as it found a group to join, it could learn to survive.
Probably it will not be released, because it is worth a lot of money.
The Seaquarium bought this whale, knowing that it had been aggressive before, so I will bet lawyers are already circling this poor woman's family.

i do not know if this is fact..but my sister heard from florida news that this is the third death related to this whale.. according to what she heard.. about 10 years ago a male trainer was found in the morning passed away in the water with the whale... and then a women trainer slipped into the water and drowned ... so if anyone hears this please let me know.. i cannot seem to find any info related to the past.

Only 48% of captive orca whales were born in captivity. Tilikum, the orca involved in the death of the trainer, was captured from the wild. So how about YOU do your research, please.

While I agree with you that these animals should not be kept in captivity, (in the wild they travel over HUGE distances, so no tank can match that) they are something we call animal ambassadors. They teach people about the animals. So yes, it is not healthy for the animals to be kept in captivity, but they teach the public not to fear, hate, and hunt these creatures. And wild captures of orcas are almost non-existant today, any new orcas are captive bred.

I've never like the idea that these whales are kept in little pools to do stupid tricks to entertain a bunch of dumb people.

Whales should live in the OCEAN. Its amazing what these animals will put up with. I'm really not even remotely surprised a trainer was killed.

Its horribly sad for that family.

... But i dont care if they are "educating" people. You can't take a whale, put it in a fish bowl, charge people $80 to enter the park, make it do stupid tricks and call it "Education"

Aquariums and Zoo that collect animals to save species from extinction and that do breeding programs for endangered species is one thing.

Killer whales arent endangered. They dont need to be in captivity for any reason.

Very sad. But very NOT unexpected.
