Only 48% of captive orca whales were born in captivity. Tilikum, the orca involved in the death of the trainer, was captured from the wild. So how about YOU do your research, please.

While I agree with you that these animals should not be kept in captivity, (in the wild they travel over HUGE distances, so no tank can match that) they are something we call animal ambassadors. They teach people about the animals. So yes, it is not healthy for the animals to be kept in captivity, but they teach the public not to fear, hate, and hunt these creatures. And wild captures of orcas are almost non-existant today, any new orcas are captive bred.

hmm... you out smarted me. dang. Anyone can go to wiki and look something up, and I should of done so. O well, I will continue to I base my opinions off logic and reason, not emotion.

You still have much to learn young grasshoppa.

Ang,
I agree 100%.

MGK
, well said my friend.

also occurred in Victoria, B.C. several years ago; trainer was riding and Orca was playing...trainer drowned.........easy enough; be careful with livestock that weights two or three tons..you are in their world.

May I ask you why you say that this animal should be killed, and then say that these animals belong in the wild? Your saying it's cruel to keep it in captivity, yet you say it should be culled? hmm... killing it seems a TINY bit cruel to me...

it might be less cruel then keeping in that little ass pool for its whole life ... if you think about it ..

While I agree that it's cruel to keep it in captivity.. it has companionship from other orcas, and while the pool isn't as large as it's natural habitat... it is like 35' deep, it's not like they're keeping it in some "little ass pool" where it can't swim around..

Once again, keeping these animals in captivity is bad for the individual but good for the population as a whole..

Should they release it into the wild? Should they keep it isolated in another tank to live out its life? Should they keep using it to perform in shows? I'm prety sure this Orca was born in captivity... It's more realistic that they will put this majestic creature down, than run the risk of a liability law suit by using a known killer for public entertainment. That would be very irresponsible, IMO. While I don't think they should use these animals as puppets, Its pretty hard to justify keeping an animal like that alive from a financial and business aspect. I know that's not what a lot of you people wanna hear, but thats a pretty realistic outlook on this matter. I think you should do a little research before letting your feelings and emotions get the best of you. just sayin'...

Its damm cruel in the tiny pool! If you want to see one watch it on youtube! I think it should be let free, if it manage to kill a human then no doubt it can kill other fishes out there to survive!

thats not how it works...

i doubt that letting go would be the best thing for it...

Intelligent animals being forced to do unnatural things, usually leads to frustration. In the case of animal as powerful and intelligent as an Orca, recipe for disaster. An animal like that doesnt kill things on accident.
