My thoughts exactly. People are too sensitive about things like this these days. Nature is violent, cruel, and unfair. What should be so different about this situation. The KILLER WHALE needs to be culled from the herd as there is no option of releasing as it was captive bred I believe.

Wow, let's have a look at this post! You say nature is violent, cruel, and unfair and that's the way things are. You also say that it is cruel and unfair to keep it in captivity! Contradiction, much? And you say it SHOULD be culled!

"Around six months before Tilikum came to SeaWorld Orlando, the whale was involved in an incident that resulted in the trainer’s death. In 1999, a man who snuck into the park was found dead in the whale’s tank." From WSBTV.com

According to Wikipedia, "Tillikum measures 22 feet 6 inches long and weighs in at 12,300 pounds (as of 2007). His pectoral fins are six and one half feet long, his massive flukes curl under, and his 6-foot-tall dorsal fin is flopped completely to his left side, and weighs close to 200 pounds. He is the largest Orca in captivity and also the most successful sire in captivity, with 13 offspring, 10 of which are still alive."

Tilikum is a nearly 30-year-old, 12,300-pound bull Orca, according to WUSA9.

Theory 1.
From what the witnesses and the "experts" are saying Tilikum probably was playing with his trainer. Looks like he forgot his own strength. :)

Theory 2. He is 30 years old, who knows what that is in human years. Maybe he was just tryin to tell her to get off his lawn.

Theory 3. He was trying to tell her to feed him, he was hungry and didn't have a food dish to throw around, so he grabbed the next best thing.

IMO there is an educational value in captive animals, however people need to realize that they are animals and no matter how intelligent and playful they are, they are still dangerous. The trainers obviously know this, the general public somehow keeps forgetting that just because an animal is not in its' natural environment that it is still dangerous. They freak out that something bad happens and overreact.

As for the guy that snuckk into the park and was found dead in Tilikum's tank the next morning, well, looks like Darwin is trying to do his job!:D

Good post! :D

Yes, I agree that keeping an orca in captivity is cruel. BUT I think without captive orcas, they would be hunted and hated. But I think that the absolute worst thing we could do is cull it, which is what you said "needs" to happen.

i do not know if this is fact..but my sister heard from florida news that this is the third death related to this whale.. according to what she heard.. about 10 years ago a male trainer was found in the morning passed away in the water with the whale... and then a women trainer slipped into the water and drowned ... so if anyone hears this please let me know.. i cannot seem to find any info related to the past.
it is the whales third offense, he was involved in an incident back in 1991 when three whales drowned a trainer, and a body was found draped across his back in in 1999, the second person had apparently snuck into the park after hours and tried to swim with the whale, their was no evidence that the whale actually killed the man (they think he actually died of hypothermia) only that the whale had torn off the mans bathing suit and played with the body
sadly i dont think this will end seaworld using these animals for entertainment but i could see this as the end of trainers entering the water with the whales, i also doubt the whale will be euthinized, seaworld already has enough animal rights groups after them as it is, if they kill an otherwise healthy animal that problem will only get worse. when i was little i actually wanted to be a whale trainer when i grew up now that im older and i know better, not so much

I'm pretty sure its 30 years in human years lol.

personally it wouldn't surprise me it killed the trainer for fun, other intelligent marine mammals like dolphins have been observed killing for what seems to be sheer amusement.

IMO, it does in fact need to be culled. This is the third HUMAN FATALITY related to this particular ANIMAL.

I was under the impression that its my opinion and not yours. Go play emo somewhere else and stop trying to instigate things.

The orca shouldn't be killed for responding to his instincts, the very thing that has kept life on this planet for so long.
