Shipping at Rapps

I have never delt with John but have heard good things about him. I have delt with both Jeff as previously stated and George, the Shark Aquarium is a great store being in NJ I can go there directly and don't have to have my fish shipped but there is always a great selection of fish in excelent condition. Psycho is from the Shark Aquarium.

To the OP I know shipping rates can give you sticker shock when you see a fish for $15 and then realize how much it really costs to get it into your tank. The bottom line is you will get the quality your paying for from Jeff delivered in good condition and if you hook up with Driftwood it's a win, win. Either way once those fish arrive I'll be waiting to see pictures. Good luck.

:ROFL::ROFL: this is awesome:) those of you that complain about shipping prices being too high make me laugh, how do think i feel? i live in Alaska! and shippin sucks for me but nobody has ever heard me complain. for example i just had a 12lb package come from orange county,Ca and picked it up at the hub, shipping cost me $156!! Shipping does vary from place to place, like i can get an order from east coast same wieght and will run me 130. but you pay for what you get. if you want high quality fish then for most of us we have to order. I started ordering online to get the best cause i got sick of all the same staple selection from lfs and when i tried to get them to order i got mayan instead of festae lol. even tho shippin can suck once ive started ive never gone back to lfs. But i do understand the initial shock of shipping prices when you first start ordering. good luck with your order. and prices will be cheaper in the summer due to being warmer and can ship ground.:grinno:

AGREE!!!

To the OP: Dan Ye Jennings is in Colorado. Americancichlids.net. Her name is quickly being passed along in the hobby as reputable and good quality. Like Jeff, a phone call to her will ensure you get exactly what you are looking for. Since she is in Colorado, you could probably reduce the shipping cost if in fact she has what you are looking for.

It can be worse, here's what I have to deal with in order to buy from Jeff.

For export orders shipped via airport (including all Canada destinations): Minimum order is $250.00 of fish and there is an additional clearance fee of $145.00 per shipment for US Fish and Wildlife paperwork clearance and inspections. Depending on the final destination, some international shipments require the services of an export broker. This fee is $100.00 per shipment. A 25.00 airport delivery charge is added to all orders.

Plus styro box fees, heat pack fees, etc.

Interestingly enough, I have a buddy who has ordered fish from the US on many occasions, and he has never once had to pay any type of F&W fee.

If you think that there's a grande conspiracy to rip you off on shipping costs, why don't you go to the shipping company's website and verify the actual cost of the shipping?

I'm not sure what that would accomplish, most commercial vendors receive large discounts via UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc. These discounts can be anywhere from 25- 50% of the cost shown for the average person when checking a shipping companies website. So unless the vendor is including a copy of his actual shipping invoice (doubtful) the reality is you will never know the actual amount they have paid for shipping. And a 50% discount isn't off the top of my head, that's the actual commercial shipping discount that I receive.

And this is not to pick on Jeff, he's a solid guy with great fish, but IMO the OP is well within his rights to openly question the cost of shipping a box of fish from NJ to CO. Splitting the cost with a few fish geek buddies is definitely a great way to go.

Honestly, you all should be greatful you have access to these great fish by a click of a button.

In my country there is no shipping of live animals, and we are forced to either drive cross country, or even to other countries completely, to get a fish we want.

My objective 2 cents :)

Heh, I get your point but it's kind of funny since Denmark is quite small so it's not THAT bad driving to other countries or cross-country from there I assume. It would take me about 8 hours of driving to reach the nearest country (Canada), and that's fairly close in America. Heck, the state I live in is almost 6 times as large as your whole country.

As i said, point well taken but it made me chuckle, at least we can send them through the mail at all!
