Shipping Rays

I know when I was working for an exporter on Lake Malawi he said that it was never the lack of oxygen that killed the fish in shipping, but the ammonia/waste buildup in the bags that did them in, or temperature (too warm or too cold). He had even checked using a smoking ember that turned to flame from the oxygen left in the bags. Our shipping was aimed at keeping the fish alive for 72 hours, with our shipments aimed at being in the customers hands within 48 hours (any more and we wouldn't do it).

This is a very intresting thread. I have never had experianc with any shipping but deffinatly going to watch this thread

i had 2 rays shipped to me, both DOA. they came in a box smaller than a shoebox, with some paper and small chunks of foam not even large enough to line the box with, and even in a single ziplock bag, no other bags. they were supposed to be delivered fedex with tracking, i received em by ups, no tracking, and was handed the box upside down. very upsetting, and this was from a mfk vendor, which i will only disclose to a MOD, if they want to blast the vendor's name so be it.

wifes hand, not mine.

That is Pathetic! Whoever it is obviously has no ethics and should be run out.

I recently had a couple rays shipped to me and they were perfect.
Normal fish shipping box with styro box inside. Rays were in bag, not sure about the O2 but had a heat pack on the inside top of the styro box, then styro box was totally taped shut then regular shipping box was all taped up..
Took a little bit to get the little girls out of the box but they were and still are in great shape... Oh yeah got the AP to AP shipped..

Wow, never heard of putting ice in your package or shipping by train!!!

Guess it depends on the bag size. BUT I would think that 1 per bag is best only because if you double them up and one dies then all will die due to decay/toxic conditions, etc. from the one death...
