SHOALING AFRICAN PIKES

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
so it is FINE that scombs die at 12" as well?
even though they are SUPPOSED to get to 2 feet in the wild?
or is that a rumour too?

Wow! Ms. Poly thanks for the input-awesome point! Bottom line we are not talking about Dovii or RTC we are talking about a fish that in the wild maxes out at 2 feet and have the girth of hot dog! Don't compare an Arowana to this fish-we are talking apples and oranges. I agree there are fish out there like an Arowana that are put in tanks to small! But Odoes don't grow to the size or girth of a Arowana-plus we are not saying to put an Odoe in a 55 gallon tank-we are saying 180 would be fine since it's width is 2 feet.

dude no one can duplicate the wild unless you own a river or a lake, these african pikes dont even swim non stop like a dorado or something 3 specimen in a 180 gal is adequate, you dont have a argument about a fish not being happy or not. Its crazy you don't have a lake

Super Ape-love your point-why even keep fish-if it is so cruel then fishkeeping should be against the law period-let me reiterate just cause someone does not have a swimming pool in their backyard doesn't mean they can't keep a large fish. Let us suppose Odoes could get two feet in captivity (which is highly unlikely) how do you explain people keeping Florida Gar or even Dovii in 240 gallon tanks? And yes the fish lived long and were happy-Odoes don't nearly have the girth or waste of a Dovii and it was happy in a 240 gallon. Anyways this is becoming a cool thread let's just not throw any low blows.

I also think we need to be more open minded. Years ago I would flame anyone who went against "the laws" of how to keep cichlids. I flamed this poor guy for a year, one day realized just cause it didn't work for me does not mean someone else can't do it. To this day he has the same fish and they are all healthy. So I think people need to be more open minded.

Call the authorities??? LOL Just giving you a heads up. Lots of people don't pay attention to what is or is not illegal in thier state. I'm just saying to keep it on the dl. IF you didn't know before you do now and can act appropriately.

I'm open minded.... I don't care if you want to keep them in a 10 gallon.... It's your choice. It is only a fish.

Advice was asked for and given. That advise was then challenged. It's NOT a law. There's no right or wrong there is only advice. You either take it or leave it.... You don't argue it... IF you do what's the point in asking for it in the first place...LOL

And as far as me being a PETA freak. I am a Person Eating Tasty Animals. I particularly enjoy cows, pigs, and birds.

awesome!

This thread makes no sense anymore. Try it and see if it works out for you.
As i said my odoe is 10-11'' and i dont think he will max out at 12''.
If he does,l i will tell you.

And now, someone close this thread, you wanted an advise, you got it and now you argue like kids.;):chillpill:
