Guys we are not talking about Red Tail Cats or Pacus we are talking about fish that max out at 12 inches no matter how big the tank you get for them!! How do you know my friends fish aren't happy-what did you fly to El Paso and see them for yourself? Please-his fish never bang on the glass and aren't skittish at all. At first they were that way but once they identified him as the "guy who feeds us" they go to the top of the tank begging for food. Let me reiterate even if they could grow to what they get in the wild, a 300 gallon would be more than enough room-in the wild they max out at 2 feet. And if your theory is poor fish needs plenty of room, then why keep fish at all-according to your thinking keeping fish is bad period!! So if you don't have an outdoor pond in your backyard then you shouldn't have fish at all! What a bunch of BS!! This is Monster Fish Keepers-not PETA!

This is no different then going to the zoo, seeing a 4 foot aro and wondering why the hell yours tops out at 30 inches. Gonna have that arguement next Rachel? Aros are perfectly happy stunted?
Is this Peta? No? Is it a website considered the authority in predatory fish? Maybe not the leader but at least second..... Too bad half the members here can't even acknowledge they fall short in keeping them housed properly. What kind of example do you set by condoning the fact that you CAN stunt them by keeping them in a tank that's too small?
People use shock collars on dogs to teach them not to bark. Why not uyse a 10 gallon tank to teach your fish not to swim? As long as the owners happy who gives a flyin fuq right?

comparing fish and people? thats the first sign of a PETA freak.DB junkie;3050658; said:People are kept in cells that are 6 by 8 and they are "fine" too.... But not happy.
you keep fish to make THEM happy?? why not just leave them were they belong instead? ...not keeping fish cos it makes you happy is the biggest BS i have ever heard, sorry invalid argument!DB junkie;3050658; said:Some people try to keep thier fish happy. Others keep fish to make themselves happy.
DB junkie;3050658; said:It's no wonder these things die prematurely in captivity.....
I'd say 99% of the fish being sold in stores die prematurely anyway, no matter what species they are...DB junkie;3053528; said:So I'm very curious to know why is it that they stay significantly smaller in captivity then in the wild?
Maybe I'm crazy for thinking that a lot of Characins die prematurely in captivity due to improper care resulting in smaller sizes then in the wild.
