Well,it's not an assumption that the guy is wrong, what he is doing is wrong.Leaving the dog teathered to a tree with no way to escape the snow and rain. The tree can't be considered shelter as there are hardly any branches on it let alone leaves.Sadly, the law is probably on the owners side here...BTW,the dogs are outside at night also.
wow then that's just sad and really sucks. I'd have to agree with what you said earlier, why the hell did he buy the dogs in the first place? that sucks.
Just thought of something else...sled dogs and huskies in Alaska etc. never have shelter and they go through some serious weather up there.
I guess it goes back to, if they have lived that way their whole life than I would assume they're used to it and have adapted but it's just not how I personally would treat a dog.
I was trying to think of the right word earlier and I think flowerpower hit it on the head, could be cultural differences.
I'm gonna guess most of the responses i have read are from people like myself and how I see a dog.Stays in the house, goes for walks, plays catch and is loved as a family member.Other's use them as "guard dogs" just some animal they feed and guards the house/company/building etc.
Some people use them to pull sleds, to hunt etc etc etc
So I guess its a cultural thing.
Another thing to think about... Pigs,goats,cows,horses...are they farm animals? Or should they be kept inside the house? I'm sure everyone has seen some video or whatever on the news about people keeping them in the house.I sure as hell wouldn't.But if it was "normal" to keep them in the house and someone left the pig outside, would we be having the same conversation?
Like I said, I think it sucks because I raised dogs my whole life the "normal" way~ In the house as another family member.
