Should I rescue this Oscar??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice oscar!:headbang2

I'm also a sucker when it comes to oscars, I've rescued a couple myself.
I like the big pout lip he's got, it's cute:) One of the oscars I rescued has the same thing going on, it's like he knew that the people I was getting him from were going to give him the one way ticket down the procelan subway if I wasn't going to bring him home with me.:(
There's no way I was going to let that go down!!!!

Nice pics of the Oscar Natalie, that was a good move on your part to rescue him. Well done! It's also good to see someone on here from the south, haven't seen too many folks on MFK from the southeast you know? Keep up the good work!

Thank you. :-) His wounds are already looking better. I also bought some Tetra Cichlid Sticks at Walmart for him because he wasn't wanting to eat any of the Hikari or frozen foods that I have. He went after these like crazy-- they must have been his staple food before I got him!

I have a question about the Melafix. The directions say to not change the water while you're medicating but obviously I need to do WC because he's in a 30g tank. In addition to daily dosing, hould I add back the 50% Melafix dose that was lost with the 50% water change, or should I just do the daily dose? I start worrying about drug half-lives and that I'll end up overdosing him. I might ask the fish vet at school but I thought I'd check with you all first because I'm sure you all have experience with using Melafix AND having to do water changes at the same time.

Thanks!

i only read the first 4 posts and i agree that you should get him..hopefully as i read more ..you already did:) oh yes congradulations..beautiful oscar!!

Nice save and nice O. Got my uaru in almost the same way, except with him/her it was a GT and a blood parrot :( doing the beating. Can't wait to see him in the big tank.

I can't wait either! :nilly: My parents are bringing down the 90g in 10 days (and yes I am counting the days). I'll be putting him in there as well as the smaller GT and con from a 55g tank, with an insta-cycle by adding the two Penguin 330s from the 55g tank. Now I have to decide on a canister filter-- I'm thinking FX5 will be the way to go...

great save, and his wounds look pretty minor, should heal up very well, nice job
