Their scrubbies not Bio Balls, It's a fully submerged Sump. Bio balls need to be exposed to air. scubbies are fine fully submerged.

Think of a HOB Filter. or canister filter, The Sponge where the BB live and all the other media is fully submerged.


Nitrates, Nitrites, Ammonia, Always Zero. I'd say it's working perfectly for a heavily overstocked tank
 
^^^ I don't understand the flow on this sump? What's the point of the three pieces of glass on the side with the protein skimmer? It looks like the taller piece is glued up so water can flow under it??? Why? Is there going to be filter pads in that space? Are you going to have a wet/dry section with bio balls? Anyway just curious how the water is going to flow.......
 
It's called a bubble trap, SW holds micro bubbles more then FW. Water goes under the middle baffel but bubbles don't, and protine skimmers make a lot of bubbles.
