Significant other and keeping fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My suggestion would be, instead of telling us how it makes you feel, try telling her how it bothers you. I dont want to turn MFK into a "chick flick" so I'll leave it at that.

Well, I'm proud to say that my wife actually has taken interest in our fish. She's not a fish freak like I am but she'll tell me what happened in the tank while I've been at work. The last thing that happened was during feeding time. She was dropping cocktail shrimp in the tank and our aro went for a shrimp that was halfway in the mouth of our 2' spotted spiny eel and he ended up grabbing the head of the spiny eel along with the shrimp and my wife freaked. I came home and fortunately enough, no damage done to the spiny eel!

I guess I'm pretty lucky. My wife has been doing a great job of maintaining our tanks while Im here in Iraq. She emails me photos now and then and I can tell that the fish are growing and water quality is good. It also helps that I downsized prior to deploying so that she only has the two tanks (120g and 60g) to worry about. She was a trooper and learned the ropes since she realizes these fish are important to me.

lol its not really that big of a deal. i just wanted to see if anyone else has similar problems. i'm curious if any girls out there have men that hate the fish or bug them about them

my husband actually likes my tanks and my mean fish, the problem is we dont have much space, and i got rid of a stupid ugly table that we never used just to get some space for a new 125g. i was just waiting to get the money for it and had everything ready. then all of a sudden he decides he wants a desktop computer and put it in the only space avaliavable: my future tank space.
i didnt say anything cause im a lot into computers and i wanted him to learn ( he dont know how to turn off a pc, nor even browse internet)
so it pisses me off that he only turns the stupid pc some days and just play stupid games on it, what a waste of space.. bye bye 125 :screwy:

My wife has been pretty cool about letting me take over the home with tanks. What bugs me though is she only has enough interest in my fish to worry and stress out over them. she goes up to my tanks and tries to tell me at least every other day about a fish "acting weird" or asking "is he going to die?" when it is perfectly normal behavior. It has gotten old fast, b/c she won't do any research or learn about or listen to me about my fish. Does anyone else have this problem? any tips on how to get her to be motivated to learn about them? She even has her own betta but she doesn't care for it herself, she has me do it.

Man they just don't get it. My fiance has been a life long fish keeper, but now she doesn't have any tanks, and I do. She hates on the tanks. Anything that tanks attention away from them (male or female) is on the crap list. Especially if it costs money, and takes up space.

don't think it gets better:grinno: sorry to hear bro

be grateful she lets you keep all them fishes ^^ my father shows too much interest in my hobby for my liking ... usually results in fatalities in my tanks (3 aligator huge gars are the latest casualties) ... with all the best intentions

i prefer that my tanks are left alone
