Silver Dollar appreciation :D

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just got a half dozen redhooks and wanted to get in on the convo for info purposes.

Cheers!

they make a great dither for big cichlids as long as they have room to speed around i settled on a shoal of spotteds to keep with my Os and GTs and they are doing very well the are tough, fast and quite entertaining the fact that all the different types school together is cool so you dont have to settle on one type. ie a mixed school of spotted , normals, red hooks , and barred still looks uniform but has a lot more interest when you take a closer look.

silver dollars are great! for a while i was obsessed with the idea of having a swarm of piranhas to entertain the guests, but since that's illegal (and cruel) sd's are a perfect alternative. when given ample roaming space they can become quite big and wide, resembling piranhas. i'm currently in the process of trying to get a 150+ gallon tank for this reason.

also right now i only have the common sd's, does anyone else know of an easy to find species that more closely resembles piranhas?

Not sure but think spotted silvers look abit pirahna'ish.....
my spotted dollar<taken a while ago,hes grown much bigger since, has abit of attitude, actually owns my tank which includes snakeheads and chocolate cichlid,he will chase everything in the tank, only have one which i rehomed about 1.5yrs ago from ermgravy....
