Single Cichlid For a Barebottom 55G?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I will believe a 16 inch JD when I see it. I have seen hundreds of them at the very least and never one bigger than 12 inches.

Tell me about it. lol but if sifted through, i think that the OP got some reasonable answers and choices.

Hey now! lol

I've done the community of small fish. I've done the species tank. I've done the planted....

Now I must do overstocked barebottom. Leave me alone. :D

Here is the tank I am speaking of:http://monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2892528&postcount=113

Now, instead of the barebottom you see in the pics, I was thinking about putting some large rocks on the right side of the tank. A decent amount I'm thinking... enough to create some cover and have something to swim around.

Would that change any suggestions?

The Delhezi I mentioned isn't looking like it's going to happen anytime soon, so it's only tankmates would be my three small bichirs.

What would some of you suggest as a cichlid for my 55g tank (48x13x20)?

I am trying to run through my options ATM, and I would like to hear some suggestions...

The tank houses three 4" Senegal bichirs. One Delhezi is likely to be put in, but right now it is not a definate...

I think it may be better to stay away from cichlids, because the tank doesn't have decor of any sort, but are there any kinds any of you have used in a barebottom tank that wouldn't pester my bichirs?

I don't think a lack of decor would be bad for cichlids. Something that doesn't get a foot long would be good though, like a salvini.

Some of the easier fish for me to get are GTs, Firemouths, Convicts, Oscars, Some africans,... usually nothing too fancy. Would any of those work? I really like GTs. I saw some at a shop a few weeks ago while I was browsing. One tank had a 5-6" one in it that was right up at the front of the tank following my every motion... Very personable. Exactly what I want.

Would a green terror (gold saum), or anything from the list work?

Grammodes? :D

A green terror would be fine, unless someone wants to tell you that they get 16"+ too LOL. Jack dempseys would be alot more popular if they got that big :)

i dont really care if i anger a lot of people saying that, just because you dont want to hear the truth. most people dont keep them for their entire lives, this jd was old as hell and had a curving spine and a decent sized nuchal lump. most people move on to other fish after 3 years(most people) and thats why we dont often see it. i'm really done explaining myself here, there is no point to your arguments.
dude your a tard, i mean come on your saying that i would need at least a 18" wide tank but preferably a 2 foot tank to house a jd if cared for "properly" will reach 16"
