Siphon instead of overflow?

So basically with overflow boxes and DIY you can create a weir that would stop water from siphoning down in case of a power outage... And also restart itself do to the design of the siphon?
That's pretty much how it works. They can still fail if aor gets in somewhere it shouldn't.

I had an hob over flow box and it flooded my garage. I wouldn't even mess with the diy stuff either. If the tank can't be drilled then screw it don't risk it.

Damn straight Frank!! Those things are a flood waiting to happen! I was fortunate to never have problems with the old DIY pvc overflows, but still risky. These days all my tanks are drilled...literally all of them. 14 tanks at the moment, every last one drilled!
